Grad students aboard the fishing trawler Harbinger are studying Orca migration in the Bering Sea when the crew dredges up recently thawed Soviet space wreckage. Inside: tardigrades — tiny creatures engineered to survive space radiation — that have mutated into something far deadlier. Now the entire crew is exposed to aggressively mutating organisms that, after three decades frozen, aren't about to give up the warmth of human companionship.
